About The Importance of Fit

Given the particular nature of the psychotherapy relationship, finding a good fit between psychologist and patient/client/couple can be crucial to the success of the process. As no two people are the same, no two psychologists will be the same. Who we are as people and our own unique personalities, combined with our particular therapeutic approach as well as the focus of our professional training can lead to uniquely different psychotherapy experiences. Throw into the mix the patient/client or couple’s own unique personalities and needs and it quickly becomes clear that “fit” can be important.

Always remember that as a patient you have the right to choose a health care professional with whom you feel most confident and comfortable. Therefore, take your time to find the right person for you. And don’t feel bad for having to find a better “fit” for you.

In an attempt to help you get a better sense of the kind of psychologist I am and whether I may be a good fit for you, I share with you some feedback on the kind of patients/clients/couples that seem to find me to be a good match for them. Additionally, I will share some of the regularly reported therapeutic outcomes from my processes with patients/couples, as well as a little bit about who I am as a therapist and person.

The kind of person or couple who seems to benefit most from working with me:

  • Have chosen psychotherapy for themselves and of their own volition

  • Is ready to take action to address the behaviour, experiences and environment that distress them

  • Appreciates a balance between insight and action within the therapy space

  • Seeks growth and change within themselves and their relationships

  • Holds awareness of the integrated nature of body, mind and spirit

  • Embrace their own accountability and responsibility for their therapy process

  • Appropriately prioritises and respects their own psychotherapy process

  • Approach therapy with an openness and willingness to learn more about themselves and their relationships

Frequent Therapeutic Outcomes

  • Improved decision-making ability

  • Transformation of problematic thought patterns

  • Embracing emotional experiences with acceptance and newfound understanding

  • Setting healthy personal and relational boundaries

  • Letting go of old fears and pain to be fully present in the potential of the current moment

  • Increased mindfulness of one’s internal and external environments

  • Increased self- insight and understanding

  • Increased environmental mastery

  • More secure intimate relational bonds

  • Increased connection with self, others and Nature

My professional and personal identity

"In nature we never see anything isolated, but everything in connection with something else which is before it, beside it, under it and over it.”

- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

As a person I value kindness, boundaried compassion, connection, equality, inner strength, growth, personal accountability, responsibility and integrity. Accordingly, I aim to practice these values in my daily personal and professional life. I thoroughly enjoy my work and can only hope that the ripple effect thereof will spread to make the world healthier and better for all living beings.

My focus as a psychologist is ultimately on connection. With that in mind, I have a deep commitment to seeing my patients grow and reconnect with themselves, their partners, their passions, dreams, life, others, Nature and the world around them.

“When people go within and connect with themselves, they realise they are connected to the universe and they are connected to all living things.”

- Armand DiMele

Working with me in psychotherapy, you are likely to find someone who is a straight talker, aims to translate insight into action, operates as an active partner in the therapy process, and respects you enough to know that you can and do govern your own life. I can assist and empower, but ultimately the change will be generated by you.
